Matlab Challenge

May 4th

The end of year Matlab Challenge has now become a tradition for the final year students in the ESPM degree program.  Since the start of the second semester within their programming course, small teams of two or three have been busy preparing strategic algorithms to control the trajectory of a cursor within a virtual arena.  The aim is to collect more points from specific locations than the opposing team while also avoiding obstacles where ever possible. Several different strategies were tried and tested.

Our tournament day this year was the 4th May. With their functions installed on a central computer in the Sports Science amphitheatre and the graphic environment projected onto the big screen, the competition got underway in a sometimes raucous, but always good-natured atmosphere.

The winners this year were Julien Barbetti and Lucas Lucas Porcaro-Pedri with a very original and efficient algorithm.

Thankyou all for participating, it was a great way to finish the year. Special thanks go to Théo Bellagamba, Tom Charollais  and Maxime Galdeano for  keeping a track of all the results, and to Tom Ugo and Tristan Penalba for providing entertaining commentary and animation throughout the event.  We also would like to extend our gratitude to Éric Bergeret (Technician ISM) for creating super trophies again this year, and to Lionel Bringoux, vice-dean of the Faculty of Sport Sciences who presented the winners with their prizes.
